Last post of 2008

So, after my little year end round up last night, I realized that this year has been a good one, but also a rough one. Rough for my family, my friends, and myself. My good friend P’s being diagnosed with leukemia, my dad’s continued illness, and my grandfather’s death, quickly come to mind. Good things [...]

2008 round-up

So I did that survey that’s been floating around blogland for a while. It follows behind the cut. Here’s a picture of the flowers A got me the other day, since the survey’s a little dry. survey…. 1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? Wrote an MA thesis Like Unlike

back in Ottawa

So I guess there was no Home pt 2 blog entry. Things got busy. I arrived back in Ottawa at 4:45 AM yesterday morning. It was probably one of the best bus rides I’ve ever had. Our bus was the “extra” bus put on because the first one was full, so there was only 5 [...]

Home, pt 1

So I made it home the other day. I’m at my parents’ house in Minden. Not a whole lot going on. My brother and his girlfriend are coming tomorrow, and bringing their new doggie, so it should be exciting. My parents have two dogs and a cat here already. That’s Pups and Scarlet in their [...]

Heartbreaking

Fire at Humane Society Kills 160 Cats, Destroys Shelter – City News I wish I had something else to write about, but I have to share this because it is just terrible. I was in tears after hearing about this on the news. I’ve heard differing reports of the number of animals killed, but no [...]

RIP Bettie Page

Bettie Page died yesterday. I’ve been a big fan of her style and work since I was a teenager, so it made me sad to hear that she was ill and near death a few days ago. There are so many imitators, but there will never be another Bettie Page. RIP 1923-2008 Like Unlike

Early presents

My lovely A. surprised me with an early x-mas present the other day. We spent most of yesterday watching them, as he’s never seen the whole series. I still can’t believe how much I love this show. Twin Peaks is probably the only show I can get behind consistently, other than The Simpsons (and even [...]

Transit Strike

Ugh. So. Ottawa’s OCtranspo transit strike started last night. We checked the website at 5 minutes to Midnight, and they had already put up their “we’re on strike” message. There’s optimism for you. I support their right to strike, but I don’t think striking now is the best idea. For many reasons. But I guess [...]

Finito

I took this photo late last night, as I was finishing up the printing of my Masters Thesis. I handed them out to my committee this morning, and then went to my lab’s Christmas party for lunch. It was a good day, but draining. Lugging around 5- 125 pg documents isn’t fun, but it helped [...]
